Keeping Safe

Keeping Safe

I do hope that you are keeping well and safe under these very difficult circumstances. It is such a challenging time for us all managing uncertainty, concerns over our health and health of loved ones. All while trying to work (if at all able) and manage the kids and keep our own mental and physical health as well as it can be.

I wanted to reach out to you to offer my support in any way. Please contact me if you need help with anything that springs to mind. From food parcels to skin cream parcels or for a friendly text/ email or chat. I know that some of you will be self isolating due to health /age restrictions so please contact me if you need anything! My Mum (aged 81) asked for Pak Choi the other day so nothing will phase me!

My clinic is temporarily closed for face to face consultations obviously while the Government restrictions are in place. I will re open with strict hygiene measures in place when permitted to do so. As some of you will know this was in place prior to the restrictions on essential travel – checking temperature on arrival, wearing a mask and cleaning all surfaces between patients. I plan to continue this system for the foreseeable future. I hope I can re open by the end of May? But who knows.

No, COVID-19 Coronavirus Was Not Bioengineered. Here’s The …

COVID 19 – My personal update, I hope this helps a little during this scary time:

I am currently working as an NHS GP in a Covid Unit in Kennington. I am assessing patients whom their own GP cannot manage by telephone alone. I am grateful to be able to help during this challenging time. As we learn more about Covid 19 I wanted to pass on a few suggestions that I have gathered from my experience as a GP.

Reassuringly, most people have mild symptoms (about 80%) some especially children do not display any symptoms and if they do they bounce back pretty quickly. These may be a dry cough, temp, muscle aches and headache for a few days of varying severity or no symptoms at all.

15% approx get moderate symptoms persistent temp, cough, myalgia – muscle pain especially backache and some shortness of breath but are still able to continue with daily tasks albeit feeling more fatigued.
5% Suffer severe breathlessness and a few require oxygen supplementation to maintain their oxygen levels and a few require mechanical ventilation.

Things that can help if you develop Covid 19 symptoms:

  • Regular paracetamol to help fever, muscles aches and headache. Maximum 8/24hours.
  • Avoid Ibuprofen
  • Sit upright
  • Sleep prone – on your tummy this can help with your breathing, also while sitting slump forward leaning over the back of a chair. This helps the lungs function more efficiently.
  • Breathing exercises – deep breathes in hold for 2 seconds ( if you can) and breathe out strongly. Now is the time to practice your yoga breathing.
  • Steam inhalation
  • Honey and lemon/ hot drinks/ cough sweets may help the cough.
  • Maintain fluid levels – keep drinking, many will have loss of appetite but try and eat something nutritious.
  • Maybe it is a good time to cook up some soups and freeze them in portions for if you do become unwell?
  • Asthmatics please make sure that you are using your regular preventative inhalers. Also make sure that you have a reliever, usually a blue Salbutamol inhaler to hand. For those asthmatics that do not use inhalers regularly make sure you have a blue inhaler that is in date. As it may well have expired.
  • The cough can persist for a few weeks. The second week can be when the shortness of breath worsens typically day 10 from the onset of symptoms.

In some people we are treating with antibiotics to treat a secondary bacterial infection that can occur. So it is worth contacting your GP or calling 111 if your cough and fever persists.

Call 111 if your symptoms persist or 999 if severe breathlessness

I do hope that you stay well and recover quickly.
If you do need to go out wear a mask, scarf over your mouth and nose, wear gloves especially when filling up with fuel at petrol stations. Wash hands and shoes on return. Take your shoes off at the front door and avoid walking your shoes throughout the house.

Please do take great care and only go out if absolutely necessary.

On a lighter note......

Looking after your skin and developing a fantastic medical grade skin care regime. We might not be able to have our usual treatments but we can ensure our skin is looking its best.

I know we are constantly bombarded with different products so to simplify here are the hero ingredients we should be looking for.

Late Summer Sun Holidays - Travel Blog - Original Travel

SPF - we need it every day!!

This is essential for everyone. UVA protection will reduce the ageing process and risk of developing skin cancer. UVB reduces the burn which can occur on a sunny day.

My favourites are:

Image SPF – MD has SPF 50 with plant stem cells and peptides in this wonderful cream which is quite lightweight and smells lovely.

Image have just launched an SPF with blue light protection along with the UVA/ UVB protection. A new tinted moisturiser which is really nice.

Alumier SPF – Sheer Hydration which is for dry skin or Clear Shield for Oily skin. They also have a tinted version which is lovely and light weight.

VITAMIN C

Vitamin C -This powerful anti oxidant works as an exfoliant and also protects skin from UV damage ( but you still need SPF) This can improve the luminosity of your skin reducing pigmentation and giving you a fresh glowing appearance. Use in the mornings.

My favourites:

Obagi Professional C Serum

Alumier Everactive C&E

RETINOL

Retinol – Super hero ingredient – anti ageing and great for acne breakouts. This works by increasing the skin cell turnover, which slows as we age. It also exfoliates and thus improves your complexion and reduces open pores. Reduces the development of fine lines and wrinkles.

My favourites are

COSMEDIX –

SERUM 16

The closest thing to prescription-strength age defiance without a prescription. In a six-week clinical study, this breakthrough super-serum by CosMedix visibly reduced the appearance of sun damage, age spots and deep lines, including crow’s feet. CosMedix Serum 16 containins 16% LG-Retinex complex, a proprietary blend of Retinol, Retinaldehyde and Glycosaminoglycans.

SERUM 24

Stimulates production of collagen and elastin to visibly improve appearance of lines & wrinkles.

Brightens the looks of age spots and discolouration
Improves skin texture and tone

DEFINE:

Encapsulated and easily tolerated, professional strength retinol also a good starter retinol, added benefit of AHA which exfoliate more. Perfect for people suffering with breakouts.

REFINE:

CosMedix Refine restores life to environmentally damaged skin to reduce signs of premature aging and improve skin texture and tone.

This potent, Chirally Correct refinishing treatment combines 4% of CosMedix’s proprietary Retinol AGP complex, allows for greater absorption into the skin plus key amino acids and powerful moisturisers to help stimulate collagen production to erase fine lines without inflammation for noticeably improved skin texture.

Reduces all signs of skin ageing
Stimulates production of collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans
Anti-acne / anti-sebum

XCELL:

helps with pigmentation from Melasma to sun spots as it contains retinol which increases the cell turnover and skin brightening ingredients.

EYE CREAMS

Eye Creams – We all are sceptical about this – do they really work?

COSMEDIX –

Eye Genius – A powerful multi-action eye treatment that contains nature-based super-ingredients including five firming peptides, sodium hyaluronate & borago oil. Blended with light-reflective mica to instantly brighten skin and visibly corrects the look of eye lines, crow’s feet, puffiness & dark circles to unveil a calmer, firmer, smoother, nourished, more vibrant & younger looking eye zone.

Eye Doctor – A liquid crystal serum that replenishes damaged, thinning skin around the eyes and supports the extra cellular matrix. Alpha Lipoic Acid, along with the repair properties of copper peptides, plus 1% Retinol AGP complex and growth factors to stimulate collagen and elastin formation for lasting reduction of fine lines. It also contains coconut extract, a potent strengthening ingredient, delicate enough for sensitive eye tissue.

Some of you may be concerned about your wrinkles!!

Image have just launched an anti wrinkle serum which may tide you over until we can treat again.

This has powerful peptides and stem cells which are designed to smoothen wrinkles and soften lines. This would be a great serum to use to help during this time while we cannot treat with anti wrinkle injections.

My lovely cat, Sofy finding time to relax and maybe meditate who knows? Perhaps try some mindfulness exercises which may help a little with managing our anxieties at this time.
